Borsheims Fine Jewelry and Gifts
Everyone has a creation story. What’s yours?
The Borsheims story started 150 years ago, with a focus on time-keeping from the beginning! In the 1870s, Omaha was a railroad town, and one of the early roles for Borsheims and founder Louis Borsheim was to serve as the official watch inspector for all railroad pocket watches in service on railcars entering Omaha. In addition to selling and inspecting watches, Borsheims also sold fine jewelry and gifts, including china and home décor.

As Omaha grew, Borsheims grew. In 1947, the Borsheims family sold the store. The new owners kept the Borsheims name and established the store’s philosophy: Offer a vast selection of inventory and exceptional customer service, all at the lowest possible price.

In 1989, longtime Borsheims customer and world-renowned investor Warren Buffett purchased Borsheims with a handshake, making Borsheims part of the Berkshire Hathaway family of companies. This move led to big growth for the company, bringing in customers from all over the world who love to shop at Mr. Buffett’s jewelry store. Every year, more than 35,000 shareholders visit Omaha to hear directly from Mr. Buffett during the Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting. The weekend includes a cocktail party at Borsheims, a shareholder shopping day, and a gigantic trunk show with 20 watch lines represented.

The store has expanded its square footage several times and boasts a single location in Omaha’s Regency neighborhood, and Mr. Buffett calls it the largest independent jewelry store in the nation. With more than 30,000 square feet of retail space, Borsheims keeps nearly 100,000 pieces of jewelry and watches, offering customers an unbelievable selection.

Borsheims is celebrating its 150th year in business this year, and the experienced staff is excited to continue helping customers celebrate life’s special moments.
